An Evening with Anita Shreve

Saco, Maine July 16, 2009 - Literacy Volunteers of Greater Saco-Biddeford continues their Maine Author Series with a visit by the Critically Acclaimed New York Times Best Selling author and Maine summer resident, Anita Shreve, who will take the stage at the Thornton Academy Auditorium, 438 Main Street in Saco on Thursday, July 16th from 7:00-9:00 pm (doors open at 6:30 pm) to discuss her new best selling novel, Testimony.

Recognized by People Magazine as a "master storyteller," Anita Shreve is the author of fourteen novels, including The Pilot's Wife (Oprah's Book Club Selection), Weight of Water, Fortune's Rocks, and Eden Close.  In Testimony, Ms. Shreve explores the all too plausible and explosive cause and effect of a sex scandal at a small New England co-ed boarding school. As in her prior novels, through Testimony, Anita once again draws her reader in as she delves and prods the range of human passion and frailty.

A riveting emotional drama with the pace and impact of a thriller, Testimony shows how our best intentions can sometimes lead to our worst transgressions. With achingly sympathetic characters-from the school's headmaster, strapped with the legal implications of the scandal, to the bewildered and heartbroken parents of the teenagers involved-Shreve deftly opens and navigates this Pandora's box of unraveling revelations.

An Evening with Anita Shreve includes a raffle, a book signing, and sales of Ms. Shreve's novels provided by Nonesuch Books in Saco.  Refreshments will be available.  The reading is open to the public. Advance tickets are $10.00 and may be purchased at Nonesuch Books or the Dyer Library in Saco, at the Libby Memorial Library in Old Orchard Beach, or at www.sacoliteracy.com.   In the event that there are remaining tickets, they will be available at the door for $15.00 (cash or check only). For more information, please call LV Greater Saco-Biddeford Executive Director, Kathy Kilrain del Rio at 283-2954.
